Racquel Britt Davis, 51, of Baltimore, was sentenced to 10 years in prison, with all but six months suspended, for running a years-long insurance fraud scheme while working for the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services, according to Attorney General Anthony Brown.
Davis filed 18 fraudulent claims between May 2018 and June 2021 under short-term disability and accident insurance policies she purchased through AFLAC, the Attorney General’s Office said on Friday, March 14.
To pull off the scam, Davis submitted fake doctors’ notes claiming she was disabled—even from doctors she had never seen—along with fraudulent workplace records showing she had been granted disability leave, officials said.
She pleaded guilty to a felony theft scheme in November last year.
On March 5, a Baltimore County judge sentenced Davis to 10 years, suspending all but six months, with five years of supervised probation upon release, the Attorney General’s Office said.
She was also ordered to pay $50,251.66 in restitution to AFLAC, covering the stolen insurance payouts.
